Exploring the Spirit of Davos

Eighteen international MSc MTEC students recently made a day trip to the 50th World Economic Forum in Davos – in cooperation with ETH Global, the programme aimed at providing first-hand impressions on how change can be effected in a world of growing challenges.

A bright sunny day welcomed the MSc student delegation after a 2.5-hour train ride from Zurich to Davos – the highest city in Europe. The programme comprised three sessions: “The Power of Youth” at the WEF Open Forum was followed by a visit to the ETH Exhibition rETHinking Creativity – including a lecture by Luc de Brabandere on Thinking in a Digital World – and an evening conversation on how activists can influence policy change and inspire the next generation of change-makers.

The students’ expectations were high – the motivation statement of one student read as follows: “We can choose to be affected by the world or we can choose to affect the world in order to make a difference. At WEF, I can learn how the latter is done.”

The excursion was part of the MSc MTEC Mentoring Programme, an initiative aiming at enhancing the academic, professional and personal experiences of D-MTEC Master's students. In summary, it was an intense day full of impressions and discussions. If you are interested in learning more about ETH activities in Davos, please check out the ETH Global Ambassadors Blog.
