MTEC Buddies Programme MSc

At D-MTEC, we believe in the valuable role a strong community can play in helping you succeed in your Master’s studies. The MTEC Buddies Programme MSc invites you to become part of the community and to find inspiration and motivation there. Your time at D-MTEC is about more than just your professional education; it also offers you the opportunity to further develop your interpersonal and social skills.

The Buddies Programme supports you in the onboarding process as you join the study programme. It has two aims:

  • Connect you with fellow students in your cohort and thus help build community
  • Connect you with 2nd- and 3rd-year students to help familiarise you with the programme and with life at ETH Zurich

We match buddies and incoming MSc MTEC students and mobility students in groups of four to six. Informal bi-weekly meetings are held virtually or in person. The programme relies on the active participation of incoming students. Participation is voluntary, but highly recommended.

The three pillars of the Buddies Programme are:

  • Community-building: We do not want incoming students to feel isolated and alone. We can build a community and discover what unites us. Do we have similar ambitions and interests? Let’s find out! We want to encourage vibrant exchange within our community.
  • Diversity: To broaden the range of our thinking and bring out the best in all of us, we aim to create buddy groups that are representative of our diversity. This enables us all to benefit from our multicultural and international community.
  • First point of contact: Your buddies will be your first point of contact for all kinds of questions that arise in the first months of your studies. Your relationships with them will be friendly and informal, and this will foster a pleasant atmosphere. Your buddies have probably experienced challenges similar to the ones you will face, so feel free to approach them at any time. Buddies can answer questions about course content and provide feedback and advice on how to go about pursuing your studies.

The MTEC Buddies Programme MSc started as a pilot project in Autumn 2020 as a joint initiative between OBIS and D-MTEC.
