Programme Framework

The Master's of Science in Management, Technology, and Economics is a four semesters programme. It comprises three semesters of classes, an internship in industry and a six-month Master’s thesis.

Overview

To complete the programme, students must acquire 120 credit points (CP): 84 CP from courses, 6 CP from an industrial internship, and 30 CP from your Master’s thesis. The table below illustrates how many CP have to be earned in each of the categories.

The MSc MTEC programme is tutor-driven. The tutor has to be a D-MTEC professor and should also be the supervisor of your Master’s thesis. The tutor system provides individual support as you create a personalised course of study (selection of core, elective and supplementary courses) based on your own talents, aims and expectations. In the course of the first semester, you will be asked by the MSc MTEC Student Services to indicate a tutor of your choice. Students are not entitled to be tutored by a specific D-MTEC professor.

Information about the research fields and teaching areas of each chair can be found in the DownloadD-MTEC Chair Guide (PDF, 5.1 MB). Further information about our faculty can be found here

Some professors from the D-MTEC faculty cannot be chosen as tutors/thesis supervisors for MSc MTEC students:

  • Professor Robert Finger

Performance assessments are either graded or evaluated on a pass/fail basis. Failed performance assessments may be repeated once.

The grading scale ranges from 1.0 to 6.0 in quarter-grade (0.25) intervals. The minimum passing grade is 4.0 and the maximum grade is 6.0.

There are three types of performance assessments at ETH Zurich.

All courses that are available each semester at ETH Zurich are published in the Course Catalogue (VVZ).  For each new semester the course catalogue is generally published in the calendar week 20 (Autumn Semester) and in the calender week 46 (Spring Semester).

The DownloadProgramme Regulations (PDF, 264 KB) and the Study Guide provide additional information on the courses offered by D-MTEC.
