MTEC Day 2022

On 4 November 2022, the MTEC Department honoured its MSc, MAS and doctoral graduates at this year’s MTEC Day. MTEC Day is an annual event that brings together graduates, alumni, faculty and key stakeholders from business and academia with the aim of strengthening the personal and professional relationships between them.

A total of 350 graduates, alumni, faculty members and guests participated in the celebrations, which took place at the ETH Main Building with separate events held for MSc/doctoral and MAS graduates. Family and friends were also able to watch the graduation ceremony via live streaming. A reception with talar shooting, where graduates could dress in the traditional academic gown, was held afterwards in the main hall in the ETH Main Building.

D-MTEC Professors Peter Egger, Ursula Renold, Bart Clarysse and Stefano Brusoni gave speeches congratulating the graduates on their achievements. The keynote speakers, Peter Eberli, Division Portfolio Manager at ABB Low Voltage Motors, and Luca Valeggia, Senior Vice President for Laboratory Automation at Tecan, delivered excellent commencement speeches, which inspired the graduates as they turn to their future career paths.

As a novelty this year, D-MTEC graduates delivered joint graduate speeches, sharing their MTEC experiences in a very entertaining manner. Dr Guri Medici, Yannick Bormuth and Bernd Somitsch represented the doctoral and MSc graduates and shared experiences and impressions from their studies. The representatives of the MAS graduates, Dr Giulia Beanato, Karim Limam and Jürg Neidhardt, inspired the audience with their witty contribution on lifelong learning.

The graduation ceremony was rounded off by the string duo Sointu Music and a surprise gig by MSc graduate Georgia Iliopoulou, who performed the song “Never enough” from the soundtrack of The Greatest Showman.
