Courses
There are three types of courses in the MSc MTEC programme: core courses convey the fundamentals, electives allow you to specialise, and supplementary courses deepen your knowledge from your Bachelor's degree.
How to find and register for courses?
All courses are published in the Course Catalogue. The Course Catalogue is updated twice a year and ahead of each new semester: in May for the Autumn Semester and in November for the Spring Semester.
You have to register for courses in myStudies.
Core courses
Core courses convey the fundamentals of the MSc MTEC programme in six different skill areas:
- General Management and Human Resources Management
- Strategy, Markets, and Technology
- Information Management and Operations Management
- Quantitative and Qualitative Methods for Solving Complex Problems
- Micro and Macroeconomics
- Financial Management
You must complete all but one course in every skill area following the Study Plan. Accordingly, you must acquire at least 51 credit points from core courses.

Elective Courses
The research groups at D-MTEC offer a wide range of elective courses. What electives you select defines your field of specialisation. Choosing electives is also critical for your Master's thesis, as some chairs recommend or even require passing specific electives for writing a Master's thesis with them.
As an MSc MTEC student, you must acquire at least ten credit points from electives.
Language courses
You can earn credit points from language courses at the Sprachenzentrum as part of the "Science in Perspective" subcategory on the condition that the level for European languages is at least B2, and for German courses C2.
Accreditation of Senior Cadre Training of the Swiss Armed Forces
An advanced military leadership training at the Swiss Armed Forces Senior Cadre Training (at least Subalternoffizier) will earn you 3 ECTS Credit Points towards your MSc MTEC degree. You can request this accrediation only once.

Supplementary Courses
Supplementary courses are offered by ETH departments other than D-MTEC and allow you to deepen the knowledge acquired in your Bachelor's studies. Courses provided by D-MTEC or focussing on management or economics do not qualify as supplementary courses.
You must acquire at least 12 credit points from supplementary courses. You must document them in a Learning Agreement on myStudies. The Learning Agreement has to be submitted on myStudies, and accepted by Student Services before you enrol in the semester in which you take the Supplementary Courses.
