ELS 2023 with Amazon Web Services (AWS)
In the 2023 edition of the ELS, participants worked on business case involving strategy, technology and innovation in close collaboration with key stakeholders of AWS.
About Amazon Web Services
AWS is the global leader in cloud services and the world’s most comprehensive and broadly adopted cloud, offering over 200 fully featured services from data centres globally. Millions of customers – including the fastest-growing start-ups, largest enterprises, and leading government agencies – use AWS to lower costs, become more agile and innovate faster.
Participants worked on projects at the interface of technology, strategy, innovation and business from AWS’s current strategic agenda:
Project 1: How can we transform the finance industry with the power of data and generative AI?
Project 2: How can AWS and its partners add more value to the digitalisation of the manufacturing industry in Switzerland and Austria?
Project 3: What role do builders play in the selection and adoption of cloud technologies? Who are these builders, and how should we address them?
Briefings from senior management and unique access to many areas of the organisation allowed participants to gain insight into how AWS works. They conducted interviews with experts and ran workshops with case managers. In a final presentation, they pitched their findings to key AWS stakeholders.
In addition, they were coached by D-MTEC professors and lecturers:
- Professor Stefano Brusoni, Chair of Technology and Innovation Management
- Dr Oliver von Dzengelevski, Chair of Production and Operations Management
- Professor Georg von Krogh, Chair of Strategic Management and Innovation
- Dr Jörg Behrens, Non-Executive Director and Entrepreneur, Lecturer, D-MTEC
The course was directed and organised by Professor Zeynep Erden and Dr Isabel Spicker as part of the D-MTEC Leadership Development Programme.
