Aptitude Colloquium
Before the end of your first year in the programme, you will defend your research project in the Aptitude Colloquium.
In the Aptitude Colloquium you will give a presentation of your doctoral plan, and demonstrate your ability to assess the relevance of your area of research and place it in the current context of academic research. You will be definitively admitted to the doctorate if you pass the Aptitude Colloquium.
The Aptitude Colloquium is conducted by the Aptitude Committee, which is composed of:
- a chairperson (another professor at D-MTEC or a member of the Doctoral Committee)
- your doctoral thesis supervisor
- your second advisor (must be nominated before registering for the Aptitude Colloquium)
- additional members (optional)
It is your responsibility to organise your Aptitude Colloquium within the first year of your doctorate in consultation with your doctoral thesis supervisor. At least ten days before the Aptitude Colloquium, you have to submit the names of the members of the Aptitude Committee and the organisational details of the Aptitude Colloquium via the form below.
If you fail the Aptitude Colloquium, you may repeat it once, provided that your doctoral thesis supervisor agrees. Any repetition must take place within three months of the announcement of the first result.
The members of the Aptitude Committee and the doctoral candidate may participate remotely. If the Aptitude Colloquium takes place in a video conference, two-way communication in image and sound must be guaranteed. If this is not the case, the chairperson is obliged to break off the colloquium and agree on a new date.
