Research area

Omid conducts empirical research on emerging technologies and technology management. In particular, he studies drones in manufacturing industries including topics such as why, when, where, and how do companies adopt drones. Omid also studies emerging phenomena such as manufacturing repurposing during emergencies such as pandemics. In his research, Omid uses various methods including (longitudinal) case studies, field testing, and virtual simulation, among others.

Omid holds a Doctoral Degree in Management, Technology, and Economics from ETH Zurich. He completed his doctoral study empirically researching drones in manufacturing industries under the supervision of Prof. Torbjørn Netland in 2021. Omid holds a Master of Science degree in Management Engineering from Politecnico di Milano and a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Engineering from Golpayegan College of Engineering, Sharif University of Technology. Omid also had the opportunity to be an invited visiting student at the Chair of Logistics, Operations and Supply Chain Management at ETH Zurich to conduct his master’s thesis, and a visiting researcher at the Information, Decisions, and Operations (IDO) Division at the University of Bath School of Management during his doctoral study. He also conducted internships in the petrochemical and automotive industries. Omid was elected to serve as the co-president of the Scientific Staff Association at D-MTEC (ScSt@MTEC) from 2017 to 2019 and serves as a ScSt@MTEC’s board member since 2020. He also served as the executive board member of Telejob and co-organized a hackathon, PolyHACK, on drone technology at ETH Zurich in 2018. Omid tweets as @OMaghazei.
